Thermal roof survey in North Hyde
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. We survey insulated roof spaces, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are missing or slipped insulation and water that travels before it shows.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in North Hyde, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in North Hyde
In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Osterley House, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around North Hyde. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Shop and office owners around Treaty Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for North Hyde, along with any off-street space. For an older house near a landmark such as St Leonard's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Common questions in North Hyde
Are there drone restrictions around North Hyde?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of North Hyde. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in North Hyde?
Parking in North Hyde, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.
What do I do with the report?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
It frequently helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
What’s in the report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
What this survey cannot tell you
It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

Tips from our surveys
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- File the images with your roof records
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. What you do with it is up to you, whether that is asking for work or discussing the price.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water doesn’t sit on the roof. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
Why it’s worth a survey now in North Hyde
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Any roof job in North Hyde means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan.

The survey, step by step
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit normally takes an hour or two for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. For a visit in North Hyde, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at whatever is safely visible from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Keep pets in another room
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Can I check my roof myself?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
