Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Nuneham Courtenay
Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. The camera doesn’t see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We survey loft conversions, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are ceilings that feel colder in places and leaks far from where the stain appears.
In a village or hamlet like Nuneham Courtenay, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
Once we’ve been, the thermal images, photos and readings go into a single report. We explain what each image may mean, with our recommendations. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
Drones, thermal imaging and Nuneham Courtenay roofs
The wider area around Nuneham Courtenay has a long history of building, with Clifton Hampden Manor about 2.3 miles south. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Marsh Baldon Church of England Controlled School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Nuneham Courtenay?
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are frequently invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
For businesses in and around places such as Templars Square, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- What insurance they carry
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What happens after the report arrives
What this survey can’t tell you
It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
- Loft conversions
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. That makes the survey more focused.
How it works
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Nuneham Courtenay, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Tell us where we can park nearby

Nuneham Courtenay: your questions answered
Is Nuneham Courtenay within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Nuneham Courtenay listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
