Regents Park Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in Regents Park, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photos.
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Cold areas below the roof
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
Tips from our surveys
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- File the images with your roof records
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There’s a 12-month follow-up too.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
Thermal roof survey in Regents Park
Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you can’t normally tell from the surface. We then check those areas with moisture readings. If you are worried about damp around roof outlets and upstands and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Around Regents Park, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

Different roofs, different checks
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. We check those patches with moisture readings.
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.
Common roof problems in Regents Park
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
We are often asked to look at:
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Water that travels before it shows
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
Anyone responsible for a site like Regents Park Community College will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Regents Park questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Regents Park?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like Regents Park?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Do I need to be at home?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Will thermal imaging find my leak?
It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera can’t confirm water on its own.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Regents Park
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
How the survey works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. Being in a smaller place like Regents Park does not change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Check pets are kept safely away
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
Getting a price
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
Advice
When you need someone else
Before you book, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- A formal energy assessment
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
