Thermal Roof Survey in Stoneleigh
Thermal roof surveys across Stoneleigh, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photos.
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
When you need someone else
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor

How a thermal roof survey works in Stoneleigh
A thermal survey is not a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. Typical surveys look at cold spots on ceilings under the roof and stains that keep coming back, on insulated roof spaces, commercial roofs and ceilings below the roof.
Around Stoneleigh, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Drones, thermal imaging and Stoneleigh roofs
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Historic houses such as Fitznells Manor, about 0.8 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Stoneleigh goes. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take a building like Auriol Junior School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you run a business near The Ashley Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

The survey, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Homes around Stoneleigh frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

Why act early in Stoneleigh
Before replacing a large flat roof, it is useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. Blocked gutters on homes around Stoneleigh overflow and soak walls, particularly where trees overhang. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
Stoneleigh questions
Will you come out to Stoneleigh?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Stoneleigh?
Yes, Stoneleigh is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Stoneleigh?
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
We are often asked to look at:
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of St John the Baptist, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
