Thermal roof surveys in Stroud Green

How a thermal roof survey works in Stroud Green

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are water getting in at parapets and stacks and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Stroud Green is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Useful tips for Stroud Green property owners

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing

If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

FAQs for Stroud Green

Is parking a problem for a survey in Stroud Green?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stroud Green?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes an hour or two at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

It records surface temperature across the roof. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It is a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

What you can safely check yourself

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • A formal energy assessment
  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs

How it works

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. From the street, a London terrace typically shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Stroud Green we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Preparing for the visit

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Let us know about parking before the day

Landlord and commercial surveys in Stroud Green

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so you know where to put things right. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Drones, thermal imaging and Stroud Green roofs

Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, frequently with Welsh slate roofs. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. If your home in Stroud Green is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Historic houses like Witanhurst, about 1.9 miles west, show how far back building around Stroud Green goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If you run a business near The Mall Wood Green, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera. If you look after a building like St Aidan's Voluntary Controlled Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
