Thermal roof surveys in Turville

About our thermal roof survey in Turville

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs, and people most often book us about stains that keep coming back and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions.

In a small place like Turville, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Different roofs, different checks

Loft insulation

The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it’s cold out. We explain in the report how the conditions on the day affected what we saw.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Turville

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

Landlords, agents and building managers in Turville and across Oxfordshire can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What we’re asked to look at in Turville

Some defects simply can’t be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Damp patches with no obvious cause

If you look after a building such as Ibstone CofE Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

  • Will the report include photos?

What’s in a roof survey

Thermal roof surveys in Turville: local notes

If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. With Stonor Park about 2 miles south-west, Turville sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

The streets around a church like Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Turville is about 6 miles north-west of Marlow, in Oxfordshire. We survey roofs in Turville and the rest of Oxfordshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Oxfordshire. You can also see our page for Reading.

Thermal roof surveys in RG9 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. You’ll find streets such as Holloway Lane and School Lane, all of which we cover. Neighbouring places we cover for thermal roof surveys include Fingest (1 mile east), Cadmore End (1 mile north-east), Little Frieth (2 miles east), Frieth (2 miles east) and Bolter End (2 miles east). Larger places within reach include Didcot (15 miles west), Thame (10 miles north), Henley-on-Thames (6 miles south), Benson (9 miles west), Chinnor (6 miles north) and Tilehurst (12 miles south-west).

Near you in Turville

We work in homes and buildings around The Bull And Butcher pub and the streets around them. A little further out are Marlow Community Hospital (6 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Warburg Nature Reserve and Bald Hill.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Turville

How do I find out if my home in Turville is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Turville?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Turville is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.

How soon will I get the report?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. If the source cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what could help next, such as electronic leak detection.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, and we check them with moisture readings.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Turville, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Before the survey

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Getting a price

Advice

What we can’t see

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • The condition of timbers we can’t see
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • A formal energy assessment

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Ceilings below the roof

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
