Gutter survey in Turville
We carry out gutter surveys in Turville as part of our cover across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely from the ground, windows, the loft space and the roof where it is safe. A visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. If you’ve noticed downpipes that are split or coming away and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Turville, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Gutter surveys around Turville
The wider area around Turville has a long history of building, with Stonor Park about 2 miles south-west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Ibstone CofE Primary School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

What you can safely check yourself
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Roof by roof
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
We look at the lining, the joints and the outlets as far as they can be seen safely. Missing lead is something we check for too.
Box and secret gutters
Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. Outlets, linings and overflows are checked as far as access allows.
Before and after the survey
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
- Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so a drain survey can be arranged. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Don’t forget valley, parapet and box gutters. They collect leaves and silt just like eaves gutters but they’re much harder to spot, so check they’re included in any clearing work.
Turville: your questions answered
Is my home in Turville listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Turville?
Yes, Turville is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details.
How fast do I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
Do you test soffits or gutters for asbestos?
No, that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor. On buildings from before 2000, we flag materials that could contain it so you can arrange that check.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
What does a gutter survey cost?

The survey, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, it normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Older rural homes like those around Turville can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Preparing for the visit
