Why act early in Trumps Green

Cracked flaunching and worn pointing are often modest repairs when they’re caught early. Leave it, and frost can work the stack loose, and the work grows. Around Trumps Green, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What you get with us

  • CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID)
  • An independent view of the roof
  • Every finding written up with photos
  • Drones and thermal imaging where applicable

Chimney surveys for homes and businesses in Trumps Green

Our survey covers the structure of the stack and its weathering details. It is not a flue inspection, a sweep or a gas safety check. If you use a fire or a gas appliance, the flue should be checked by a sweep or a Gas Safe registered engineer as appropriate. If something we see points to the flue, we will say so. If you’re worried about staining on walls around the chimney and gaps in the mortar around the pots, we can find out what’s behind it.

Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What you can safely check yourself

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Practical tips

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Find out whether changes to a stack need permission
  • Check unused flues are capped with ventilation
  • Book a sweep for flues that are in use
  • Check your stacks from the ground after strong winds

The report is emailed to you, ready to share with a roofer or builder. We use plain English and a photo for each defect so anyone reading it can see what we saw.

Get small mortar repairs done while they’re small. Small repairs now can save bigger work later.

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like Trumps Green needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. You tell us whether any stacks are shared, unused or leaning.
  2. The flashings and the roof around each chimney are inspected.
  3. The top of each stack is checked for cracked flaunching and loose pots.
  4. We note the brickwork, pointing and any sign of leaning.
  5. You receive a written report setting out what needs attention first.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Trumps Green questions

Do you cover smaller places like Trumps Green?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is my home in Trumps Green listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

What does a chimney survey cover?

We check the pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing, brickwork and flashings. Inside, we look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft where there’s safe access. You get a written report with photos.

Is it a problem to have an unused chimney?

A redundant chimney needs looking after like any other. Capping without airflow can lead to damp. Our survey records its condition and how it is capped, so you can plan what to do with it.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Different roofs, different checks

Brick stacks

Most chimney stacks are built of brick, with mortar joints that wear over time. The survey looks for crumbling bricks and worn or missing mortar.

Flaunching

Sitting at the very top, flaunching is fully exposed. The survey checks for cracking and gaps around each pot.

How we price chimney surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • How big the roof is
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Chimney survey starts from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Booking your survey

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • What made you get in touch

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or email us, let us know about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

Trumps Green homes and their roofs

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Whatever the covering, it is frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Botleys Mansion, about 2.2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Trumps Green. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Homes near green spaces such as Riverside Walk can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. For landlords with property near Virginia Water station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Take a building like Trumps Green Infant School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Trumps Green is about 3 miles south-west of Egham, in Surrey. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Trumps Green can all book chimney surveys. We cover towns and villages across Surrey. We also survey roofs in Guildford.

Further out, we also cover Guildford (10 miles south), Woking (6 miles south), Camberley (8 miles south-west), Epsom (14 miles east), Ewell (14 miles east) and Egham (3 miles north-east).
