Drone roof survey in Ashford Common, Surrey
Know where you stand with the roof before you decide what to do next. We carry out drone roof surveys in Ashford Common, with photos and a clear written report.
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
Do you need a drone roof survey in Ashford Common?
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
Historic houses like Strawberry Hill House, about 4.6 miles east, show how far back building around Ashford Common goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- What follow-up you get after the report
- How soon the report will arrive
How a drone roof survey works in Ashford Common
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are flashings that have come away and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Older cottages and houses around Ashford Common may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

FAQs for Ashford Common
How do I find out if my home in Ashford Common is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you cover smaller places like Ashford Common?
Yes, Ashford Common is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, and it’s part of the Premium Survey.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
When does the report arrive?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
What if it’s windy or raining on the day?
The flight waits for better weather. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so we’d move the date with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Ashford Common
The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Ashford Common. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Take a building like Meadhurst Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you live in an older home near St Saviour, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Checking the roof from ground level
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
What a drone roof survey does not cover
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
How the survey works
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. A visit to Ashford Common is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Keep pets in another room
Arrange a survey
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Why act early in Ashford Common
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. In a smaller place like Ashford Common, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing does not stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

For landlords and managing agents
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
