What a drone roof survey does not cover

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs

Drone roof survey in Littleton Common

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone isn’t the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’re worried about flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, we can find out what’s behind it.

Somewhere as small as Littleton Common, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

How the survey works

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit typically takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Somewhere like Littleton Common needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

How to book

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Advice

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Littleton Common: your questions answered

Are there drone restrictions around Littleton Common?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Littleton Common is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Will you come out to Littleton Common?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

What happens next?

You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How long does the survey take?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.

Flying and imaging in Littleton Common

Littleton Common is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

With Hampton Court Palace about 4.8 miles east, the area around Littleton Common has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Parish Church of St Matthew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a building like Ashford CofE Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What happens if roof problems are left?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Older and listed buildings around Littleton Common may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
