Roof survey in TW17: how it works

We survey roofs in TW17 and across London and South East England. Visits run seven days a week. We are insured for professional indemnity and public liability. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you’re ready to book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We’re often asked to look into condensation or damp timbers in the loft and loose ridge or hip tiles, on chimney stacks, lead flashings and clay and concrete tiles.

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
  2. We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. We look at the roof from every safe vantage point, inside and out.
  4. We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Roof surveys across TW17: local notes

Homes across TW17 range from older properties with chimneys and lead flashings to newer houses with concrete tiles. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked.

We survey roofs across London and the South East, and TW17 is part of that. London and South East England have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.

Shepperton: Landlords with a home close to Shepperton station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. The Homewood, about 3.8 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Shepperton. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

What we are asked to look at in TW17

What’s under the slates or tiles is as important as the coverings themselves. Breathable membranes only appeared in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs frequently have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Felt that has torn or perished stops doing its job.

Here are some of the things we see frequently:

  • Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
  • Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
  • Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
  • Valley linings that have cracked or split

Why act early?

Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. Our report gives you a record of how the roof is today, so you can compare it next time.

What to check before booking

  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Are they insured for the work?

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

Landlords, agents and building managers in TW17 and across Surrey can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Different roofs, different checks

Natural slate

Slate is one of the most durable roof coverings, but its nails frequently corrode first. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted, and for clips that show past repairs.

Flat roof coverings

Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets.

TW17: your questions answered

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

We don’t put a figure on it, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.

How long does a roof survey take?

It usually takes between one and two hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll explain what’s needed.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
