How a roof survey works in KT15
Across London and South East England, roofs differ widely. A Victorian or Edwardian terrace may have slate, a central valley gutter and parapet walls, while many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles. We adapt the survey to the roof in front of us. Older tiled homes may have clay plain tiles, and many homes have a flat-roofed extension too. Every part gets the attention it needs. We survey flat roofs, clay and concrete tiles and the roof space, and people most frequently book us about lifted, split or missing lead flashings and worn or blocked valleys.
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.

Homes and roofs across KT15
From Chertsey, Addlestone and New Haw to smaller places, people across KT15 use a roof survey to plan ahead. Small faults, caught early, are far easier to deal with.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and KT15 is part of that. London and South East England have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.
Addlestone: If you live near a park such as Woburn Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. Historic houses such as Botleys Mansion, about 1.8 miles west, show how far back building around Addlestone goes. If yours is one of the older homes, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.
Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Hold on to the report for future surveys
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Keep a record of damp patches and dates
Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation. It’s a chance to ask questions about anything in the report.
Keep the roof space ventilated. A stuffy loft collects condensation, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof.
Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are looked at. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
Natural slate
From the loft, we check the underside of a slate roof. There may be old felt underlay, or none at all on very old roofs.
Leave it or get it looked at?
By the time water marks a ceiling, it’s frequently been getting in for a while. Insulation, plaster and timber can all be damp before you see a stain. A survey can pick up the early signs from the loft.
What to check before booking
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- What happens after the report arrives
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- Which limits apply to the survey
What this survey can’t tell you
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Your questions about roof surveys in KT15
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
How do I book a survey in KT15?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only when it’s safe. We also use views from the ground, windows and the loft space, and Premium includes a drone where applicable.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. We do not provide structural calculations.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
What does a roof survey include?
Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it is safe. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.
