About our drone roof survey in Barwell
We carry out drone roof surveys in Barwell and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. If you’ve noticed hidden gutters full of leaves and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that.
Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
How the survey works
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. The survey usually takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Surveys in Barwell can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
Arrange a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we look at
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
FAQs for Barwell
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Barwell?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.
How do I find out if my home in Barwell is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
In some places, only with permission. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.
Does someone need to be in?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photos are part of every report.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Drone roof surveys around Barwell
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Ellingham Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For a London address like Barwell, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day.

Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photographs and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
