Independent drone roof surveys in Beech

Flying and imaging in Beech

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. About 1.5 miles west lies Bentworth Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Beech has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Amery Hill School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church like St Peter's are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Beech is about 2 miles west of Alton, in Hampshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Beech can all book drone roof surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Our Hampshire coverage includes Beech and the places around it. Guildford is in our area too.

Drone roof survey in Beech

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and wind damage high on the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Beech, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

Beech: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Beech?

Yes. Beech is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Is drone flying allowed in Beech?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Beech

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Outbuildings and barns around Beech are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You will know the figure before booking.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

How it works

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older rural homes like those around Beech can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
