How a drone roof survey works in Bletchingdon
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are moss and weeds taking hold up top and lifted or split lead flashings.
Somewhere as small as Bletchingdon, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Drone roof surveys around Bletchingdon
Oxford Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. Historic houses like Blenheim Palace, about 3.9 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Bletchingdon goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bletchingdon Parochial Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Bletchingdon
Will you come out to Bletchingdon?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Bletchingdon?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Bletchingdon is about 3 miles from Oxford Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
What’s in the report?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
What we’re asked to look at in Bletchingdon
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Giles, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How big the roof is
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT.
Booking your survey
A little information up front helps. It helps to include:
- The address and postcode of the property
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- What made you get in touch
Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Bletchingdon, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.
