Drone roof surveys in Chase Cross

About our drone roof survey in Chase Cross

Drone roof surveys are available in Chase Cross and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. If you’ve noticed ridge pieces that have lifted and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters alike.

Around Chase Cross, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.

When you need someone else

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks

What we do, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Homes around Chase Cross often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice

Common questions in Chase Cross

How do I find out if my home in Chase Cross is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Is drone flying allowed in Chase Cross?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Practical tips

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. In a smaller place like Chase Cross, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Drones, thermal imaging and Chase Cross roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. In Essex, older buildings are often clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Anyone responsible for a site like Bower Park Academy will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to St James: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Hare Hall, about 2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Chase Cross. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Chase Cross is about 2 miles north of Romford, in Essex. If you are in Chase Cross, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Across Essex, we cover Chase Cross. We also survey roofs in London.

Surveys in RM5, RM1 and RM4 are booked the same way as anywhere else. That includes homes and businesses on Merlin Road, Avelon Road and Vernon Road and the roads around them. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Havering-atte-Bower (1 mile north-east), Redbridge (2 miles west), Stapleford Abbotts (2 miles north), Lambourne End (3 miles north-west) and Chigwell Row (3 miles west). Further out, we also cover Basildon (12 miles east), Harlow (12 miles north), Brentwood (6 miles east), Billericay (11 miles east), Loughton (6 miles north-west) and Wickford (15 miles east).

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
