Your questions about drone roof surveys in Fawley

Is my home in Fawley listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is drone flying allowed in Fawley?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

How fast do I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What’s the best way to book?

Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

Do you cover Fawley?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Fawley.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Fawley

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’ve noticed lead work pulling away at abutments and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Some older homes in villages like Fawley are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

When you need someone else

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How the survey works

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Fawley, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before we arrive

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

What we are asked to look at in Fawley

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Mary the Virgin's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
