Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Forty Hill
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. Common reasons to book are moss and weeds taking hold up top and debris building up in hidden gutters, on flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Forty Hill as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Why get it checked now?
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see. You can tackle the urgent items first. London’s older roofs frequently have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

FAQs for Forty Hill
Is my home in Forty Hill listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Forty Hill?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
How long does the visit take?
On site, it normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Is your drone operator registered?
Yes. We hold both a CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID. The drone we use weighs under 250g.
What we do, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit normally takes between one and two hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Surveys in Forty Hill can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Let us know the exact address as you book
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.
What you can safely check yourself
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Drone roof surveys around Forty Hill
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.
If you run a business near Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most. Take an older house close to Jesus Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

When to book a survey in Forty Hill
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.
Common reasons to book include:
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
Forty Hall, about 0.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Forty Hill. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Questions to ask before booking
- What insurance they carry
- Is VAT included in the price?
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
