Drone Roof Survey in Funtley
Independent drone roof surveys in Funtley. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
The survey, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Funtley can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare

Advice
How a drone roof survey works in Funtley
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and plant growth and moss on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Funtley, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What a survey costs
Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How big the roof is
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- When you need the report by
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
When you are ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Funtley
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Outbuildings and barns around Funtley are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Funtley questions
How do I find out if my home in Funtley is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Funtley?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How experienced are you?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Will you check the loft?
Where it’s relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
Drones, thermal imaging and Funtley roofs
Funtley is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
If you run a business near Fareham Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Francis, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Orchard Lea Infant School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Funtley is about 1 mile north of Fareham, in Hampshire. Funtley is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. Funtley is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work. Portsmouth is in our area too.
