Godstow Drone Roof Survey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach in Godstow, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
How it works
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes an hour or two for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a small place like Godstow, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Advice
Drone roof survey in Godstow
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are hidden gutters full of leaves and flashings that have come away.
Somewhere as small as Godstow, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- House, block, shop or office
- Roof area
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Helping us price your survey
We will normally ask about:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Godstow
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Flashings that have come away
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Godstow, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.
What to check before booking
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Whether VAT is added on top
- When you will get the report
- Will the report include photos?

What else we do in Godstow
Godstow: your questions answered
Will you come out to Godstow?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
How do I find out if my home in Godstow is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. We will not fly in strong wind or heavy rain. We’ll talk through the options if the day turns bad.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How long will you be at the property?
On site, it typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Flying and imaging in Godstow
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. The wider area around Godstow has a long history of building, with Holywell Manor about 2.7 miles south-east. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Shop and office owners around Clarendon Shopping Centre may find that big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most.
