Drone roof surveys in North Oxford

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in North Oxford

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We’re often asked to look into wind damage high on the roof and moss and weeds taking hold up top, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs.

Places like North Oxford can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in North Oxford

Will you come out to North Oxford?

Yes, North Oxford is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in North Oxford?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Can you survey in bad weather?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

Surveys for landlords and agents in North Oxford

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Parking around North Oxford is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Tips that help

You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Roof area
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • The property’s address and postcode

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Around North Oxford, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Historic houses such as Holywell Manor, about 1.5 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around North Oxford goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
