How a drone roof survey works in Park Town
We carry out drone roof surveys in Park Town and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on any day of the week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and loose ridge and hip tiles, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Around Park Town, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

How it works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a smaller place like Park Town, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Tell us about parking before the day

DIY checks: what’s safe
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Airspace, weather and Park Town roofs
Older buildings in west Oxfordshire frequently have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
If you look after a building like Wychwood School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. With Holywell Manor about 0.9 miles south-east, the area around Park Town has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Park Town means lost rooms as well as repairs.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. On a bungalow or cottage around Park Town, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
Why us?
- Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
- An independent look at the roof
- We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Clear package prices, including VAT

Roof by roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Useful tips for Park Town property owners
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Questions from Park Town
Do you cover smaller places like Park Town?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Is drone flying allowed in Park Town?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
