Drone roof surveys near Hadley Wood

About our drone roof survey in Hadley Wood

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at. Let us know about the building and access when you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a visit in Hadley Wood, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. We then look at everything that’s safely in view from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What we’re asked to look at in Hadley Wood

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Paul's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What to expect from a roof survey

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

FAQs for Hadley Wood

Is my home in Hadley Wood listed or in a conservation area?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is drone flying allowed in Hadley Wood?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Hadley Wood?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain doesn’t usually stop a survey. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

What a survey costs

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What to let us know when you contact us

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Anything about access we should know

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or email us to find out.

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
