Drone roof survey in Underhill, Greater London
Not sure what state the roof is in? You can book a drone roof survey in Underhill and across Greater London, with plain-English findings.
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
Before and after the survey
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Tell us the exact address as you book
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
About our drone roof survey in Underhill
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you are worried about gaps where slates or tiles have gone and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Why it is worth a survey now in Underhill
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Underhill
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Baptist Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building such as St Catherine's RC School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Historic houses such as Wyllyotts Manor, about 3.4 miles north, show how far back building around Underhill goes. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

How we price drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The roof’s overall size
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- The property’s address and postcode
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- What’s prompted the survey
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
Underhill questions
Is my home in Underhill listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Underhill?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
Do you cover Underhill for drone roof surveys?
Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Underhill.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. We won’t fly in high wind or heavy rain. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Underhill
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.
Checking the roof from ground level
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
