Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Monken Hadley

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. Common reasons to book are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, on large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Monken Hadley as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What this survey can’t tell you

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How the survey works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Monken Hadley we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

What a drone roof survey looks like in Monken Hadley

Wyllyotts Manor, about 2.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Monken Hadley. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Take a building like Monken Hadley CofE Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. For a London address like Monken Hadley, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Checking the roof from the ground

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Monken Hadley

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Monken Hadley: your questions answered

Is drone flying allowed in Monken Hadley?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Monken Hadley is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How long does the survey take?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.

Will you check the loft?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

What’s in the survey report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

Why get it checked now?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. In Monken Hadley, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.
