Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Haggerston
Drones need reasonable weather. We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. Common reasons to book are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and standing water on a flat roof, on valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Haggerston, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Haggerston
A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. In Haggerston, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Practical tips
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Check the loft can be reached
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
Airspace, weather and Haggerston roofs
The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Haggerston. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it is granted. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
Anyone responsible for a site like Randal Cremer Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Haggerston means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. Sutton House lies about 1.5 miles north-east, so building around Haggerston goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What happens on the day
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can safely be seen, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Surveys in Haggerston can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Haggerston: your questions answered
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Haggerston?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.
Is drone flying allowed in Haggerston?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Haggerston is about 2 miles from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you look in the roof space?
Normally, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
Do you work in Haggerston?
Yes, we do. Haggerston is part of the area we cover.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain does not typically stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Haggerston
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.
Honest limits
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
