Drone roof survey in Kingsland: what you get

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed cracked mortar along the ridge and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks alike.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at, in Kingsland as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we cannot see

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

Kingsland questions

Are there drone restrictions around Kingsland?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Kingsland is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you cover Kingsland?

Yes, we do. Kingsland is part of the area we cover.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Typically, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Common roof problems in Kingsland

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Kingsland means lost rooms as well as repairs.

What to check before booking

  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • When you will get the report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What’s in a roof survey

What happens on the day

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Surveys in Kingsland can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Airspace, weather and Kingsland roofs

Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that cannot be seen from the pavement. In a house like that, shared stacks, party-wall upstands and lead flashings all need looking at as far as they can be seen. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

For an older house near a landmark such as Holy Trinity Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Sutton House lies about 1.1 miles east, so building around Kingsland goes back a long way. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Kingsland is about 1 mile north-east of Hoxton, in Greater London. Kingsland gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Our Greater London coverage includes Kingsland and the places around it.

Drone roof surveys in N1, E8 and N16 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Dove Road, Glebe Road and Ufton Road or a nearby road, we can survey it. We also cover the places around Kingsland: De Beauvoir Town (1 mile south-west), Dalston (1 mile east), Mildmay (1 mile north-west), Canonbury (1 mile west) and Newington Green (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as London (3 miles south), City of Westminster (4 miles south-west), Marylebone (4 miles south-west), Kensington (6 miles south-west), Walthamstow (4 miles north-east) and Hampstead (5 miles west).

Why get it checked now?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
