Drone roof surveys near Hoxton

About our drone roof survey in Hoxton

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so. Typical surveys look at wind damage high on the roof and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Hoxton is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Let us know the exact address when you book
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photographs and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What we cannot see

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

Flying and imaging in Hoxton

The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Hoxton. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it is granted. Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that cannot be seen from the pavement. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Take a building like Shoreditch Park Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Parking in Hoxton, as in most of London, takes a little planning: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway when you book.

Hoxton is about 2 miles north of London, in Greater London. From houses to flats and shops in Hoxton, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Across Greater London, we cover Hoxton and the places around it.

We survey roofs across the N1, N1P and EC1V postcode area for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on City Road, Noel Road and East Road. We also cover the places around Hoxton: Haggerston (1 mile east), Shoreditch (1 mile south-east), Canonbury (1 mile north), De Beauvoir Town (1 mile north) and St Luke's (1 mile south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover City of Westminster (3 miles south-west), Marylebone (3 miles south-west), Kensington (6 miles south-west), Walthamstow (4 miles north-east), Hampstead (4 miles west) and Ruislip (14 miles west). What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Getting in touch

Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you get in touch, it’s useful to mention:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • What made you get in touch

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What happens on the day

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

Hoxton: your questions answered

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Hoxton?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when booking.

Are there drone restrictions around Hoxton?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Hoxton is about 2 miles from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which is not always given. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when booking.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Hoxton

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Hackney Walk, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

Before you book anyone

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • What follow-up you get after the report

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
