Drone roof survey in Hawley
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. If you’re worried about worn lead at chimneys and walls and chimney tops in poor condition, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Places like Hawley can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
The survey, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Hawley is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
Booking a survey
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Check the loft can be reached
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
Hawley: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Hawley is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hawley?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Hawley is about 3 miles from Blackbushe Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
How long does the survey take?
Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report follows by email.

Common roof problems in Hawley
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
Take an older house close to Holy Trinity Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- What experience they bring
- What happens after the report arrives
- What the survey won’t cover
- What insurance they carry
Leave it or get it looked at?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Around Hawley, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, especially where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.
