Drone roof survey in Holloway: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Holloway and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Common reasons to book are standing water on a flat roof and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, across valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Holloway, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

What this survey can’t tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs

What we do, step by step

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

FAQs for Holloway

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Holloway?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Are there drone restrictions around Holloway?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

How fast do I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Do you look in the roof space?

Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. We survey on any day of the week.

Leave it or get it looked at?

From the ground, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

Drone roof surveys around Holloway

Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, frequently with Welsh slate roofs. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. In a house like that, shared stacks, party-wall upstands and lead flashings all need looking at as far as they can be seen. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

For an older house near a landmark like St Joseph and St Padarn's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. For a London address like Holloway, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. Shop and office owners around Brunswick Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
