- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
About our drone roof survey in Honor Oak
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We’re often asked to look into worn lead at chimneys and walls and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, across fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Honor Oak
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Wind damage high on the roof
Kingswood House, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Honor Oak. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

What we do, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Honor Oak runs like any other.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about parking before the day

What a drone roof survey looks like in Honor Oak
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight.
If you look after a building like St Francesca Cabrini Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Shop and office owners around Lewisham Shopping Centre may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

Honor Oak questions
Is my home in Honor Oak listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is drone flying allowed in Honor Oak?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Do you cover Honor Oak for drone roof surveys?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Honor Oak included.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
What’s the best way to book?
Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Booking your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- What made you get in touch
- What kind of property and roof it is
- The address and postcode of the property
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
