Drone roof survey in Hook, Hampshire
Drone roof surveys in Hook, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photos.
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
Different roofs, different checks
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Drone roof survey in Hook: what you get
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Common reasons to book are ridge pieces that have lifted and plant growth and moss on the roof, across fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
Villages like Hook often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Outbuildings and barns around Hook are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Hook: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Hook is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Are there drone restrictions around Hook?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Will you check the loft?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take between one and two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Checking the roof from the ground
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
For landlords and managing agents
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
What we do, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Hook often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Note where any stains or damp appear
