Drone roof survey in Hurst Green

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at lifted or split lead flashings and debris building up in hidden gutters, across valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

Older buildings in small places like Hurst Green may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Can I check my roof myself?

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Airspace, weather and Hurst Green roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Historic houses such as Titsey Place, about 2.3 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Hurst Green goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Agatha's Hall, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The size of the roof
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

What to tell us when you contact us

We will typically ask about:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • What made you get in touch
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Hurst Green: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Hurst Green?

Yes. Hurst Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Is drone flying allowed in Hurst Green?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

What happens after the survey?

You will get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

What does a roof survey cost?

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Surveys for landlords and agents in Hurst Green

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

What we’re asked to look at in Hurst Green

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

If you look after a building like Hurst Green Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Will the report include photos?
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • What they will not be able to tell you

What a roof survey includes

What we do, step by step

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Hurst Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
