How it works

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. The survey normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Landport, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

About our drone roof survey in Landport

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and slipped or missing slates on a high roof.

Places like Landport can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The roof’s overall size

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Landport

Is my home in Landport listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is drone flying allowed in Landport?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What will the report tell me?

A photo-illustrated written report, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Landport, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Why us?

  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. A drone avoids that.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Landport

Landport is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Hotels and guest houses near Landport cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. For an older house near a landmark like Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. For businesses in and around places such as Tricorn Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Checking the roof from the ground

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Landport

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
