About our drone roof survey in Monks Orchard
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, across chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we are surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Monks Orchard as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when booking. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Monks Orchard: your questions answered
Is parking a problem for a survey in Monks Orchard?
Typically it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
Is drone flying allowed in Monks Orchard?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside can’t, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
How quickly is the report sent?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
Flying and imaging in Monks Orchard
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Addington Palace lies about 1.8 miles south, so building around Monks Orchard goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like Oasis Academy Shirley Park will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What happens if roof problems are left?
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Any roof job in Monks Orchard means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.
What we do, step by step
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Monks Orchard we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Advice
Do you need a drone roof survey in Monks Orchard?
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
If you live in an older home near St George The Martyr Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What the survey won’t cover
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
