Drone roof survey in Mud Row
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed plant growth and moss on the roof and flashings that have come away, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a small place like Mud Row, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Drone roof surveys in Mud Row: local notes
Mud Row is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Why get it checked now?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Around Mud Row, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

What else we do in Mud Row
What we cannot see
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
What happens on the day
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Mud Row, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

FAQs for Mud Row
Will you come out to Mud Row?
Yes, Mud Row is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Is my home in Mud Row listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. The roof space is checked separately, where there is safe access.
How fast do I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Practical tips
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Tell us the exact address as you book
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
Common roof problems in Mud Row
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
Take a building like Eastchurch Church of England Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Are they insured for the work?
- How long the report takes to arrive
