Honest limits

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Eastchurch

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Common reasons to book are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, on fragile roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.

In a small place like Eastchurch, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Questions from Eastchurch

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Eastchurch?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Eastchurch is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

What happens next?

The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain does not normally stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.

When does the report arrive?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes an hour or two for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older roofs in small places like Eastchurch can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

For landlords and managing agents

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.

What a survey costs

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Booking your survey

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to let us know:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know
  • What made you get in touch

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Flying and imaging in Eastchurch

Eastchurch lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Anyone responsible for a site like Eastchurch Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For an older house near a landmark like Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Eastchurch is about 3 miles east of Minster, in Kent. We provide drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Eastchurch and nearby. Our Kent coverage includes Eastchurch and the places around it. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

All of ME12 is covered for drone roof surveys. Whether your property is on High Street, Squires Court and Warden Road or a nearby road, we can survey it. We also cover the places around Eastchurch: Mud Row (1 mile east), Bay View (2 miles east), Warden (2 miles east), Minster (3 miles west) and Leysdown-on-Sea (3 miles east). Further out, we also cover Canterbury (13 miles south-east), Sittingbourne (7 miles south-west), Whitstable (8 miles south-east), Faversham (6 miles south), Herne Bay (12 miles east) and Davington (6 miles south).

Can I check my roof myself?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
