Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Netley Marsh

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed blocked valleys and parapet gutters and chimney tops in poor condition, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs alike.

Older buildings in small places like Netley Marsh may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What happens on the day

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Older rural homes like those around Netley Marsh can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Let us know about parking before the day

What this survey can’t tell you

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Netley Marsh

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

If you look after a building such as Netley Marsh Church of England Infant School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys around Netley Marsh

Netley Marsh lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

The streets around a church like Church of St Matthew are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is normally out of view. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Netley Marsh

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Let us know the exact address when booking
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

Netley Marsh questions

Is my home in Netley Marsh listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Netley Marsh?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain doesn’t typically stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Do you work in Netley Marsh?

Yes. We carry out drone roof surveys in Netley Marsh.

Do you look in the roof space?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
