What this survey can’t tell you

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

About our drone roof survey in Newenden

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Typical surveys look at hidden gutters full of leaves and standing water on a flat roof, on fragile roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.

In a small place like Newenden, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Airspace, weather and Newenden roofs

Older houses across Kent frequently have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. With Great Dixter about 1.7 miles south-west, Newenden sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Newenden is about 10 miles north of Hastings, in Kent. We survey roofs in Newenden and the rest of Kent, as part of our work across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. There is also a page for Maidstone.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Getting in touch

We’ll typically ask about:

  • When you need the report by
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

To get a price for drone roof surveys in Newenden, phone 07833 053749 or email us. Some details about the property and the roof help us price the survey accurately.

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Newenden

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What we do, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Newenden can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Common questions in Newenden

Do you cover smaller places like Newenden?

Yes, Newenden is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Is my home in Newenden listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

When does the report arrive?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Does your drone take thermal images?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is a separate check, included in our Premium Survey.

What will the report tell me?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Common roof problems in Newenden

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof

The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
