Drone roof surveys near North Sheen

Do you need a drone roof survey in North Sheen?

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Standing water on a flat roof

Hotels and guest houses near North Sheen cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • What insurance they carry
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • What experience they bring

What a roof survey includes

Drone roof survey in North Sheen: what you get

Drones need reasonable weather. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and blocked valleys and parapet gutters.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. Images are taken to show the roof we are surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

What affects the price in North Sheen

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How big the roof is

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and the package you choose.

What we need to know

A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.

Honest limits

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs

Leave it or get it looked at?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Why book with us

Drone roof surveys in North Sheen: local notes

The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 2 miles of North Sheen. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

The streets around a church such as The Barn Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses such as Kew Palace, about 1 mile north-west, show how far back building around North Sheen goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

Common questions in North Sheen

Can parking be tricky for a visit in North Sheen?

It depends on the street. If North Sheen has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in North Sheen?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. North Sheen is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

How do I book a survey in North Sheen?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof. Surveys run on any day of the week.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

What if it rains on the day?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

The survey, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. In North Sheen, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Advice

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
