  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Wind damage high on the roof

Do you need a drone roof survey in Old Town?

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water

Take a building like The Minster Nursery and Infant School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What a roof survey includes

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Old Town

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. Common reasons to book are lead work pulling away at abutments and standing water on a flat roof, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at, in Old Town as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Drone roof surveys in Old Town: local notes

Historic houses such as Addington Palace, about 3 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Old Town goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Old Town, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. As a London address, Old Town can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway as you book.

Old Town is about 1 mile north-west of Croydon, in Greater London. We visit Old Town as part of our work across Greater London, for homes and businesses alike. We cover towns and villages across Greater London, large and small. There is also a page for London.

We survey roofs across CR0, CR9 and CR90 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Park Lane, Fell Road and Abbey Road and the roads around them. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Waddon (1 mile south-west), Broad Green (1 mile north), Beddington (1 mile west), Bandonhill (1 mile south-west) and Russell Hill (2 miles south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover London (9 miles north), City of Westminster (10 miles north), Marylebone (10 miles north), Kensington (10 miles north-west), St Pancras (11 miles north) and Shoreditch (11 miles north).

Local landmarks in Old Town

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Rutherford School, The Gun Tavern and St Andrew's CofE School and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Old Town itself: West Croydon station. Other landmarks nearby include Croydon University Hospital (1.2 miles north) and Croydon Airport Visitor Centre (1.3 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Roundshaw Downs and Duppas Hill.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

What happens if roof problems are left?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

Every price we give includes VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking.

What affects the price in Old Town

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price before you book.

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

Old Town questions

Is drone flying allowed in Old Town?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Old Town?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know when booking.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Surveys in Old Town can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
