For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.
How a drone roof survey works in Peartree Green
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you’ve noticed ridge pieces that have lifted and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.
Older cottages and houses around Peartree Green may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What this survey cannot tell you
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Peartree Green
Peartree Green is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Peartree Green is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given.
Medieval Merchant's House, about 1.3 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Peartree Green. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you run a business near Marlands Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you live in an older home near Peartree Green United Reform Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Peartree Green: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Peartree Green?
Yes, Peartree Green is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
How do I find out if my home in Peartree Green is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Roof by roof
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Around Peartree Green, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than the original defect.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

How it works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Being in a smaller place like Peartree Green does not change how the visit works: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
