How a drone roof survey works in Preston

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’ve noticed standing water on a flat roof and cracked mortar along the ridge, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Drone roof surveys in Preston: local notes

Within a mile and a half or so of Preston there are several hotels, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Preston Park Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Preston, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Preston is about 1 mile north of Wembley, in Greater London. In Preston, as across Greater London, every roof gets the same careful survey. Our Greater London coverage includes Preston and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our London page.

We cover every part of the HA9, HA3 and HA0 postcode area for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. We cover properties on Quad Road, Tower Lane and The Avenue. Close by, we survey roofs in Wembley (1 mile south), Wembley Park (1 mile south-east), Kingsbury (1 mile north-east), Queensbury (1 mile north) and Mapesbury (1 mile south-east). We also work in nearby towns like London (10 miles south-east), City of Westminster (7 miles south-east), Marylebone (7 miles south-east), Kensington (6 miles south-east), St Pancras (8 miles east) and Shoreditch (10 miles east).

Local landmarks in Preston

For landlords and managing agents

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.

What we’re asked to look at in Preston

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

If you run a business near London Designer Outlet, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Their insurance cover
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What a roof survey includes

What this survey cannot tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs

How the survey works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In Preston, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Arrange a survey

Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

Advice

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

Preston: your questions answered

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Preston?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Preston?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. If permission is not given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • How big the roof is
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
