Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Runfold

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are loose ridge and hip tiles and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Villages like Runfold often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Drone roof surveys in Runfold: local notes

Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near The Church of the Good Shepherd, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. With Farnham Castle about 2.2 miles west, the area around Runfold has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Runfold is about 2 miles east of Farnham, in Surrey. We survey roofs in Runfold and the rest of Surrey. Our area takes in places right across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Guildford.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. For older village homes like those around Runfold, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Runfold

Is my home in Runfold listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Will you come out to Runfold?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

The camera stays on your roof. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Runfold?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.

Are you insured?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

How the survey works

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older rural homes like those around Runfold can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

Common roof problems in Runfold

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

Anyone responsible for a site like South Farnham School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • What insurance they carry
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?

What a good roof survey covers

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

What this survey can’t tell you

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
