Drone Roof Survey in South Kensington
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for South Kensington and the rest of Greater London. We survey on any day of the week.
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Chimney tops in poor condition
Should I look at the roof myself first?
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Drone roof survey in South Kensington: what you get
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Typical surveys look at slates or tiles shifted by high winds and vegetation in valleys and gutters, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

FAQs for South Kensington
Can parking be tricky for a visit in South Kensington?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.
Is drone flying allowed in South Kensington?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. South Kensington is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. South Kensington is about 2 miles from the restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How we price drone roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us

Useful tips for South Kensington property owners
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
How it works
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know when you book.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Keep pets in another room
Booking a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
