Book a drone roof survey in Little Chelsea

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In Little Chelsea, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Advice

Drone roof survey in Little Chelsea

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Little Chelsea is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Tips from our surveys

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

FAQs for Little Chelsea

How do I find out if my home in Little Chelsea is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Little Chelsea?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

Strong wind or a downpour stops a flight. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If we can’t fly, we will arrange another day.

What insurance do you have?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Is your drone operator registered?

We are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.

Drone roof surveys in Little Chelsea: local notes

The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea covers Little Chelsea, or comes right up to its edge. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. The wider area around Little Chelsea has a long history of building, with Carlyle's House about 0.4 miles east. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

For hotels and guest houses around Little Chelsea, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest. Take a building like Park Walk Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Little Chelsea.

Why get it checked now?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition

Take a look at how roof surveys are priced or our case studies.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
