About our drone roof survey in Earl's Court
Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We’re often asked to look into hidden gutters full of leaves and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, across large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.
London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Earl's Court as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Earl's Court is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Earl's Court we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare

- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

Questions from Earl's Court
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Earl's Court?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Earl's Court?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea covers Earl's Court, or comes right up to its edge. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
How much is a survey?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details as you book.
Do you work in Earl's Court?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Earl's Court included.
What affects the price in Earl's Court
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
Common roof problems in Earl's Court
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
If you live in an older home near St Cuthbert's, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
