Drone roof surveys in Springvale

Drone roof survey in Springvale: what you get

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and lead work pulling away at abutments, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Even in a smaller place like Springvale, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Springvale

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Anyone responsible for a site like Kings Worthy Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

The survey, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit usually takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Springvale, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Springvale

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps with budgets and planning.

Springvale questions

Do you cover smaller places like Springvale?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is my home in Springvale listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

What if my home is near an airport?

That depends on where the roof is. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control. Allow a little extra time if your home is close to an airport.

What happens next?

You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, tell us when booking.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

We point the camera at your roof only. Neighbouring homes and gardens are not the subject. It helps to tell neighbours beforehand.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Springvale

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

For an older house near a landmark like St Mary's Church Hall, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

What a roof survey includes

Why it is worth a survey now in Springvale

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Around Springvale, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
