Practical tips

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Drone roof survey in Stock

We carry out drone roof surveys in Stock and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly seven days a week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Common reasons to book are lifted or split lead flashings and standing water on a flat roof, across chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Some older homes in villages like Stock are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks

For landlords and managing agents

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Questions from Stock

How do I find out if my home in Stock is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover smaller places like Stock?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

Safety comes first, so the weather decides. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.

How do I book a survey in Stock?

To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Our drone weighs under 250g and follow the drone code.

Will you photograph next door’s garden?

The camera stays on your roof. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it’s useful to tell your neighbours about the visit.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Drone roof surveys around Stock

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, alongside a good many post-war and newer estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

Ingatestone Hall lies about 2.5 miles west, so building around Stock goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Take an older house close to Church of All Saints: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Stock is about 3 miles north-east of Billericay, in Essex. Roofs in Stock get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Essex. Our Essex coverage includes Stock and the places around it.

Here we cover the CM4 postcode area for drone roof surveys. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on The Square, High Street and Webster Place or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Larger places within reach include Chelmsford (5 miles north), Basildon (6 miles south), Brentwood (7 miles south-west), Maldon (11 miles north-east), Canvey Island (11 miles south-east) and Rayleigh (8 miles south-east).

What we’re asked to look at in Stock

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

Anyone responsible for a site like Stock Church of England Primary School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price

What’s in a roof survey

What we do, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Stock, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Arrange a survey

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the details.
