Questions from Streatley

Is Streatley within the area you cover?

Yes, Streatley is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Are there drone restrictions around Streatley?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What’s in the report?

Written findings with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How long will you be at the property?

It normally takes between one and two hours at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

How a drone roof survey works in Streatley

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey chimney stacks, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are ponding and splits on a high flat roof and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

Some older homes in villages like Streatley are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Streatley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

When to book a survey in Streatley

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots

Basildon Park lies about 2.1 miles south-east, so building around Streatley goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What’s in a roof survey

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Honest limits

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs

What a drone roof survey looks like in Streatley

Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Take a building like Streatley C.E. Voluntary Controlled School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
